A new mini-review article from our group in collaboration with Dr Katarzyna Szot-Karpińska from our neighbours in the Surface Nanoengineering Group has just been published in Current Opinion in Electrochemistry! 1
In this article, we explore recent advances in peptide-based electrochemical biosensors for health monitoring. Peptides are becoming increasingly attractive alternatives to conventional biorecognition elements such as antibodies, thanks to their high stability, relatively low cost, and the possibility of animal-free synthesis.
We discuss different approaches to peptide selection and design, their immobilisation on electrode surfaces, and their application in the detection of disease biomarkers and toxicity-related analytes. We also outline the key challenges that need to be addressed to bring peptide-based sensors closer to practical point-of-care and wearable applications.
The article is available open access!
