Swearing in the new students

matriculation2
Today our new PhD student were sworn in and have now officially started their PhD studies. This is done at a small opening ceremony in the institute aula where they get their book in which their study records are noted from the head of the PhD programme and the director of the institute. I like this relatively new tradition, as it is a nice little ceremonial welcome to the institute.

Before the students are immatriculated they also need to swear a kind of “Hippocratic oath”:
“I pledge to strive for the truth and for the widening of knowledge, both during the doctoral studies and in research work, and, with my personal conduct, to bring credit to the Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences.”

Congratulation to Marta and Vishwanath, who are now officially PhD students!
